SAISI ExpoSense 2026: Journey Through the Senses

by | Jun 17, 2026

Held at Midstream Ridge Primary School

SAISI ExpoSense 2026 took visitors on an unforgettable Journey Through the Senses, bringing together families, educators, therapists, and sensory enthusiasts for a day of learning, exploration and fun. The event celebrated the incredible role that our sensory systems play in everyday life while creating opportunities for meaningful connection within the sensory integration community.

Thank You to Our Sponsors

A special thank you to our main sponsors, SOX Footwear and Sanlam, whose generous support helped make ExpoSense 2026 possible.

Guiding the Journey

A special thank you to our energetic MC, Jeandre Venter, who kept the day flowing seamlessly. From introducing exhibitors and facilitating competitions to engaging children and families throughout the event, Jandre’s enthusiasm and warmth helped create a welcoming and exciting atmosphere for everyone.

Attendees were welcomed with goodie bags and a host of interactive experiences designed to engage every age group.

Exploring the Sensory Systems

The heart of this year’s theme was the opportunity to learn more about the eight sensory systems through beautifully designed infographic displays positioned throughout the venue. Visitors were invited to embark on their own sensory journey by exploring each sensory system and discovering how these systems influence daily life, learning, participation, and well-being.

One of the highlights of the day was the Sensory Medallion Activity. Participants completed the sensory plotting medallion, reflecting on their own unique sensory preferences within each sensory system. The result was a sensory medallion that celebrated individual sensory differences and encouraged greater self-awareness and understanding.

Fun for Every Age

The Expo was filled with thoughtful and engaging activities designed to support sensory exploration and play.

Kids’ Zone

The Kids’ Zone provided a welcoming space where children could play, create, and regulate. Children particularly enjoyed the electric go-karts provided by Kiddies Go Karts. Every registered child received a complimentary ride ticket, and the quieter electric vehicles offered a more sensory-friendly alternative while still delivering plenty of excitement.

Teen Zone

Teenagers enjoyed a dedicated Teen Zone featuring puzzle-based challenges that encouraged problem-solving, teamwork, and creative thinking.

“Sense-able” Talks That Inspired

This year’s educational programme offered valuable insights for both parents and educators.

How Your Sensory Health Affects Your Teaching and Parenting

Presented by Dr Gina Rencken and Elize Janse van Rensburg, this thought-provoking session explored the important role that adults’ own sensory processing plays in relationships, teaching, parenting, and everyday interactions.

How Your Child’s Sensory Health Affects Their Learning

Presented by Yumna Razak and Liani Austin, this practical and informative talk helped attendees better understand the connection between sensory processing and learning, while offering strategies to support children in educational environments.

To ensure that parents and teachers could fully engage with the presentations, a child-minding zone was facilitated by SAISI board members and occupational therapy students. This professional and caring service allowed adults to attend the talks knowing their children were safe, entertained, and well supported.

Special Showcase: South African Guide Dogs Association

One of the standout features of ExpoSense 2026 was the special showcase by the South African Guide Dogs Association. Visitors had the opportunity to learn more about the incredible work performed by guide dogs and service animals, gaining insight into how they support independence, mobility, and participation in everyday life.
