Reflection Time
On July 19, 2024, I attended and helped organise the inaugural ExpoSense, hosted by the South African Institute for Sensory Integration (SAISI) at Moreleta Church in Pretoria. As a new board member, I was excited yet nervous to be part of this impactful event. The day was filled with energy as the community came together to celebrate sensory integration accessibility.
From the early morning, exhibitors set up, and attendees enjoyed coffee, marking a significant milestone. SAISI came to life for me on this day as I could finally meet all the amazing board members I had only spoken with over Teams meetings before. Parents, therapists, educators, and sensory enthusiasts united to explore advancements in sensory integration, advocate for accessibility, and foster community spirit.
Walking through the exhibition, I was impressed by the variety of sensory products, from therapeutic toys to advanced sensory integration equipment. The creativity and dedication of professionals developing new support methods for sensory processing were inspiring, and our SAISI family felt proud to witness it all.
Opportunity for growth and connection
ExpoSense offered fulfilling connections with like-minded individuals, including therapists, parents, and students, all sharing passion and purpose. The sensory workshops, designed for continuous professional development, provided valuable insights into everyday living from a sensory perspective, enhancing the learning experience through discussions. These workshops ranged from toileting through a sensory lens to behaviour versus sensory, and were engaging for all who attended through the panel discussion format.
Learn and develop
ExpoSense 2024 exceeded all of our expectations. The excitement from attendees, the commitment of our exhibitors, and the collaborative spirit from SAISI board members all contributed to making this event something for the books. We sincerely thank everyone who attended, participated, or supported us in any capacity. We hope that your enthusiasm for sensory integration will inspire us to continue our efforts in making sensory integration more accessible.
