Conversion qualification process for full SIPT® / ASI® trained therapists to EASI®
The SASIC 2 course is divided into two parts, namely:
- Part 1: CLASI M2 (presented asynchronous online by CLASI)
- Part 2: SASIC 2 CLASI M3 (presented in-person by SAISI in collaboration with CLASI)
PLEASE NOTE: Both courses should preferably be completed in the same year due to the consequent timeline for SASIC courses.
Part 1: CLASI M2 : Asynchronous online
CLASI M2 is a self-study / asynchronous online course. It contains a set of online lessons (pre-recorded videos) and EASI® scoring practices, which course participants may complete in their own time within the allocated time frame of five weeks.
CLASI M2 introduces the course participant to information on direct and indirect assessments focused on the EASI®. A review of the Sensory Processing Measure 2 (SPM-2®) is available, although this is not the focus of the course.
The online course comprises 20 lessons and scoring practices, which need to be completed after each lesson. The course participant will be expected to work through the online site “Resources” section and print and/or download the required manual and sets of test forms, in preparation for completing the M2 lessons and scoring checks. The CLASI formal course outline indicates that the M2 course comprises 20 hours of course work (online pre-recorded videos and scoring checks) and additional time for practising the EASI® administration and scoring (an additional 10 hours is recommended). SAISI recommends setting aside at least 2-3 full days in order to work through the online content and allocate additional practice time thereafter. The course participant has five weeks during which the online M2 course work must be completed and before the set deadline.
It is vital to be well acquainted with the EASI® administration and scoring before attending the SASIC 2 CLASI M3 course. The participant will be expected to practise the administration of the EASI® tests during the video lessons, as well as further practice of administration and scoring on adults and typically developing children thereafter, in order to prepare for the upcoming SASIC 2 CLASI M3 course.

PLEASE NOTE: The course fee is charged in US $ (not Rands). The final fee (Rand value) is calculated when course participants are registered with CLASI and the registration fee paid to CLASI. The course participant will then receive an invoice with the exact calculated Rand value according to the exchange rate at the time of payment.
Pre-course prerequisite
Access to an EASI® kit to practise effectively during the ASI® training process. Course fees do not include the EASI® kit and this is an additional expense for the course participant.
- The manual, test sheets and how to compile an EASI® kit are available under the “Resources” on the CLASI M2 site.
- Full EASI® kits can be purchased and orders can be placed with the SAISI office (saisi@instsi.co.za).*Prices are subject to change without prior notice.
- Course participants may compile their own EASI® kit and purchase the 3-D shapes through SAISI.
- Another option is to rent or borrow an EASI® kit.

Part 2: SASIC 2 CLASI M3 : In-person
The SASIC 2 CLASI M3 course is presented by SAISI lecturers. This is a five-day in-person course. During this course, participants have the opportunity to clarify any questions that they may have about the EASI® test administration and scoring. Course participants undergo and further practise the assessments, administration and scoring of the EASI® with their peers, while feedback is provided by the lecturers. The course participants will ultimately learn how to administer the EASI® in a practical and time-efficient manner.

SASIC 2 in-person Course activities:
- Completion of all 20 lessons of CLASI M2, including passing all scoring checks by 8 June 2025.
The following will be required during SASIC 2 CLASI M3:
- A full EASI® kit. It is of utmost importance that course participants familiarise themselves and check the contents of their EASI® kits before arrival at the SASIC 2 CLASI M3 course.
- Download and or print the EASI® manual (available from the CLASI M2 site).
- At least two sets of test sheets must be printed for use to practise on and write notes during the course.

Post-course activities due
SASIC 2 CLASI M3 Course activities:
- TASC (Test administration and scoring check) by 4 September 2026.
- EASI® assessments of two typical children by 4 September 2026.
- EASI® assessment of one atypical child (with suspected sensory integration difficulties) for interpretation during the SASIC 3 course: 4 September 2026.
* Penalty to apply for late submission: A penalty fee of R550 will be charged should the course participant not have submitted the TASC and or EASI® assessments by the set time (deadline) or request submission extension. Extension may not be possible, due to the tight SASIC course timelines, however should it be possible, the course participant will be provided with a new submission deadline. The above EASI® assessment results will be uploaded by the course participants onto an EASI® data capturing platform. Instructions for uploading will be provided during the SASIC 2 M3 course. SAISI has an agreement with CLASI to have access to all the data of South African children.

This is a five-day in-person course. During the current transition period, both the EASI® and the SIPT® are discussed during SASIC 3, due to certain course participants who are completing their ASI® training using the SIPT®, as well as interpretation of ASI® functions and dysfunctions based in part on previous studies conducted with the SIPT®.
The SASIC 3 course focuses on the interpretation of sensory integration constructs, using clinical reasoning, interpreting the results of the SIPT®/ EASI®, as well as a sensory questionnaire (SPM 1/2 or SP 2 – the SPM2® is preferred on SAISI courses), unstructured clinical observations, and observations of play and in therapy. Clinical pictures of sensory integration difficulties and dysfunctions are taught based on the latest ASI® constructs.

Course participants must have their atypical case available for discussion at the SASIC 3 course:
- EASI® results, relevant clinical observations, sensory questionnaires, (such as SPM 1/2 or SP 2), any other additional tests, as well as any other relevant information.
- A 5-minute video clip of the atypical case, in an unstructured situation.
- An EASI® manual.
Post-course activities due
Course participants must take note that, in order to successfully complete their ASI® training, it is mandatory to submit their Fidelity Measure© (FM) videos along with the accompanying DDDM.
Therapists who qualified prior to 2014 have to submit their FM videos and complete their ASI training, as part of their EASI conversion process. Please note that the last submission date for FM video submissions for the conversion group, will be 25 April 2025. Thereafter, therapists who want to become fully ASI® trained, must attend the 5-day onsite SASIC 4 Intervention Course prior to submitting their FM videos.

The SASIC 4 course is divided into two parts, namely:

Part 1: SASIC 4 (five-day presented in-person)

Part 2: FM (presented online synchronous)
The five-day in-person course where intervention strategies within the Ayres Sensory Integration® (ASI®) frame of reference are taught. The implementation of an intervention plan based on the interpretation of test results is demonstrated and discussed. Clinical reasoning and case-based problem solving are used throughout. The science and art of ASI® intervention are taught in a practical manner. The one-day synchronous online course follows the intervention course focusing on the key elements of ASI® intervention with Fidelity Measure© principles. The outcome is to support participants in the submission of their Fidelity Measure video to complete their ASI® training and receive their SAISI certification.
PLEASE NOTE: Once the Fidelity Measure© submission has been passed, course participants will receive a final certificate stating that they are ASI® trained (SAISI), able to use the SIPT®/EASI® Test and can apply ASI® intervention principles.

- Prepare a case presentation for guiding clinical reasoning. This includes:
- Written consent from primary caregivers of the child
- SIPT®/EASI® results.
- Separate Ayres Clinical Observations when using a SIPT® case, or additional clinical observations when using an EASI® case.
- Sensory questionnaires (such as the SPM 1/2 or SP 2), as well as any other relevant information.
- A 5-minute video clip of the child where the child is exposed to play on SI equipment.
- Case study DDDM outline.
Post-course activities due
Fidelity Measure© (FM) submission:
A case study, according to the DDDM, and a 10-minute continuous video clip on the intervention of a child for scoring on the ASI® Fidelity Measure© must be submitted.
It is strongly recommended that course participants attend at least one FM mentoring session (this fee is not included in the course fee). Course participants must achieve a minimum score of 80% according to the ASI® Fidelity Measure© process elements to pass and become fully ASI® trained.
